43rd edition
Spread across more than ten theaters and venues throughout the city of Ghent, Film Fest Gent expects over 130,000 viewers. This year’s program is inspired by cinema from two different corners of the world: Scandinavia – hence Greta Garbo on the poster – and Japan – two regions with a rich cinema history and a bright cinema future!
Film Fest Gent will offer audiences a wide range of Nordic films to choose from, thus illustrating there’s more to the region than the cinematographic ‘krimi-wave' it is currently most known for. In addition, the festival is putting a spotlight on Japan to honor the 150th birthday of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Belgium in 2016.
As in previous years, Film Fest Gent will pay special attention to film music. During the 16th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards on 19 and 20 October in Capitole Gent, the best composers of film music will receive international recognition for their work.
Film Fest Gent will open its 43rd edition on 11 October with Cannes Palme d’Or winner “I, Daniel Blake” at the Ghent Kinepolis (which features, by the way, Barco projection technology!).
Ever-passionate about the magic of movies, Barco is proud to be a Film Fest partner once again. We are looking forward to the festival selection – see you in Ghent!
